Life: And All That That Implies

No thanks to the technical support of Bellsouth/AT&T, whatever it is they call themselves these days, I have internet again. I am not convinced that the connection is very stable though.

I had to reformat the C drive on my computer and reinstall Windows - and all that that implies: drivers, programs, etc. I have yet to install all that that implies. I think we have decided that one of the problems with the computer is related to a bad battery back up that everything was plugged into. I am not sure if that is the problem or just one of many.

The "legal fuckup" mentioned in a previous post continues to plague us a bit. I must have the original copy of the new Power of Attorney for Friday's closing. M informs me that all mail going out of a war zone is standard - no priority. This means it is highly unlikely I will have the original in hand by Thursday morning when I have to drive to South Carolina. The attorney said he cannot legally close the house without this paper, so I'm not sure how we will work this out just yet. Ideally, they will consider the fact he is in a war zone and how lucky we are that he was able to get to Balad to get new paperwork drawn up in the first place, and cut me some freakin slack. They have a scanned copy of the original sent from the attorney in Balad. I'll know more in a few days.

My thoughts have shifted to the future, in spite of these current pressing issues. I have started to imagine what life in our first house might be like. I think about walls with colorful paint (I've lived in military/apartment blah for a good 10 years). I think about once again having space to quilt, and a place to entertain people, a place for my outdoor swing. I imagine barbeques, tomato plants in pots, boys riding their bikes up and down the street, M standing in his workshop making something nice for the house. I imagine picking out furniture and refinishing old pieces.

I knew this was the house from the moment I walked in the front door. I made the offer and was in a Charleston yarn store looking for a rug to knit for our beautiful hardwood floors before the seller even had a chance to respond. I found the perfect balls of wool yarn on clearance. In the midst of dealing with these issues and the other implications of moving, I am working on this rug.

I am excited about making something for the new house. It is a typical braided rug. The braids are made of lengths of icord - 4 stitches, on a giant needle (US 19). The brown in the center will be repeated twice more, alternating with two bands of the contrast color. The colors are neutral, so they will be a nice accent with any crazy color scheme we ultimately decide to use.
